Welcome from the Principal

Paul Norton PrincipalKings Monkton School is an independent school, in the heart of Cardiff, welcoming children of all abilities aged 3 – 18.

At Kings Monkton School, we believe that every child has huge potential to excel. We aspire to nurture and unlock that potential, opening the minds of our pupils through inspired learning.

We are an inclusive school that focuses on building confidence and character. We believe that the grounding and learning achieved with us is a crucial factor in helping our pupils go on to become successful, fulfilled adults.

We aim to develop well-rounded children, both academically and socially, so you can feel confident that your child will get the best possible start in life.

We recognise that every child is an individual, and we deliver the best possible education for your child, valuing academic outcomes as well as attainment regardless of academic performance.

Despite being based in the heart of our capital city, we pride ourselves on the fact that we maintain a village school ethos, providing a friendly and caring environment to our pupils, parents and staff.

The school’s great history, coupled with the progressive approach of our owners Heathfield Independent Schools, means our pupils benefit from a style of education that upholds our many traditional values, combined with the latest learning methods, technology and innovations in the classroom.

We invite you to visit us and see for yourself what our school can offer your child.

Kings Monkton School is a co-educational school in the heart of Cardiff, welcoming children of all abilities aged 3 to 18.

Kings Monkton School was formed in 1994 from the amalgamation of two of Cardiff’s oldest schools – King’s College and Monkton House – both of which were established in the 1870’s.

Generations of local children have passed successfully through the two schools and former pupils have gone on to make their mark in all walks of life in South Wales and the wider world.

In 2013, the school was purchased by Heathfield Independent Schools, opening up immense opportunities for the further development of our school, staff and pupils.

Our vision is to create an inclusive school community built on a happy, innovative and outstanding learning environment.

Our mission is to prepare each pupil for life, enabling them to discover themselves and develop their gifts and talents; to fully realise their potential and to achieve the highest standards of which they are capable.

“At Kings Monkton we are committed to giving young people an education that will equip them for life in a changing world, set within the firm foundations of an inclusive and supportive community.”
