College

Kings Monkton College offers flexible
'A' level choices with classes averaging only six
students. Subjects are taught by highly qualified subject
specialists with a proven track record of
examination success. Many students also
choose to work towards the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
through a dedicated tutorial programme. This qualification is
highly value by top universities.
The College prides itself on its success in
examinations and in securing places for its students in the
university of their choice. Students are taught within the school's
existing facilities but have a separate sixth-form centre with
their own common room, computer suite, study areas and seminar
rooms. College students form part of a close-knit,
mutually-supportive community and the emphasis is upon acquiring
responsible independence in preparation for university life.
Students receive expert, extensive and
personalised advice about entry to university, including
Oxford and Cambridge. Workshops are provided from an early stage in
Year 12 to help develop interview techniques and personal
statements. These are further refined in the early stages of year
13, when admissions tutors from local universities come into
College to run practice interviews.
As a preparation for life and also as a means
of strengthening their university applications, students are
offered, and encouraged to participate in, a wide range of
activities that develop team and leadership skills. In
addition to having the full rage of Monday and Wednesday afternoon
activities open to them, most students opt to be part of a Young
Enterprise Company, building on ideas developed during the annual
Enterprise Day. The majority also have a specific link with the
primary school, where they can make use of their particular skills
to help with aspects such as Art, Activities, paired reading and
nursery support. The Gold Duke of Edinburg Award is also
popular.
The College programme is coordinated by our
College Manager, supported by a dedicated team of College
Tutors.
