International Debut for College Student
College student Harry R has been selected
to represent Wales as part of the U20’s rugby squad to come up
against England at Parc y Scarlets this Saturday.
Managing to fit in a hectic training schedule
with both the Cardiff Blues and Wales squads alongside his A level
studies of Biology, PE and Business Studies, Harry makes his début
on the wing for the U20’s this weekend whilst still eligible for
the U18’s.
Principal, Mr Dorey said:
“Harry is a remarkable young man. It takes
tremendous dedication as well as talent to succeed in sport at this
level. To combine this with a full and successful A level programme
is some achievement and we are all proud to support him along his
way at Kings Monkton.”
Harry also made his début for Cardiff Blues
senior team this weekend in their LV tournament clash against the
Ospreys at Cardiff City Stadium. Already likened to Leigh
Halfpenny, at just 17 years of age, Harry shows great promise for a
glittering rugby career having come through the age groups with
Cardiff and The Vale.
Keeping it in the family, he cites Dad Justin,
former Pontypridd outside half as his inspiration:
“I have grown up with rugby and have wanted to
play for as long as I can remember. To be pulling on a Welsh jersey
to represent your country is an honour at any level and I am
looking forward to being a part of this U20’s squad for the next 7
weeks.”
