World Maths Day 2011

World Maths Day was again a huge success and following on our involvement in last year's event, every class in the Primary School, from year 1 to year 6, took part to earn a joint score of a whopping 33,632 points - which equated to the correct answers gained by all the pupils who took part.

Kings Monkton pupils pitted themsleves against other pupils from around the world in live games of mental arithmetic. Each game lasted for 60 seconds and pupils each played up to 100 games, earning points for their personal tally. Students could play beyond 100 games during the event, but points only counted to the World Maths Day Mathometer, not their personal point score.  The students who answered the most questions correctly will appear on the Hall of Fame. There were 5 levels of play, with 20 games on each level.

Over 5 million students registered from 218 countries and the validation process is now underway to establish winners in each category, plus the top countries. Official results will be posted by 12.00pm Thursday 10 March.

Class results (and total correct answers) were as follows:

Year 1     1,241

Year 2      3,942

Year 3      1,365

Year 4      3,822

Year 5      7,954

Year 6      5,377

Congratulations go to all children who participated and were given a participation award certificate to take home. The following highest scoring pupils received a platinum award certificate in assembly:
