Year 9 Tapas Lunch
On Friday 18th of February, after completing the unit
on ‘tapas’, Mrs Hannah took Year 9 to La Tasca in the town centre
to experience it first hand. It is rumoured that the idea of Tapas
came about when one of the Spanish Kings decided to ban the Spanish
from drinking alcohol without having something to eat. Bar owners
found a way around this by placing a small saucer of snacks over
the top of the beer glass like a lid ‘tapa’. The tradition of tapas
has continued every since finding its way popularly into British
culture. Pupils sampled a wide range of foods including Mrs
Hannah’s favourite of patatas bravas. Some pupils weren’t too
impressed with the fried squid especially as they thought they
would be biting into an onion ring! Pupils ordered their drinks in
Spanish and tasted the Spanish delights of ‘tortilla española’ and
‘paella’ to name a just a few. Everyone left La Tasca surprised
that just a few small dishes (Tapas) could be so filling.
