Infants 2017-10-01T14:10:46+00:00

Our infant department is a safe and happy environment for 4 to 7 year olds. It is the place where a young child’s natural energy and enthusiasm is nurtured and focused on developing a love of learning.

Our small class sizes enable children to make close friendships and develop good relationships with their teachers; allowing them to grow in confidence; be able to express themselves and be challenged as they actively engage in their learning.

There is an emphasis on providing a thorough grounding in literacy and numeracy. Reading and writing is developed early on as children build on a sound knowledge of phonics. Early numeracy skills are learned through a balanced programme of active play as well as more formal written work. This is complimented by a wide range of other subjects in the weekly timetable including specialist teaching in French.

Classrooms are bright, vibrant and lively places where information technology is used throughout the curriculum with interactive whiteboards being used by both teachers and children.

Learning regularly takes place outside of the classroom as well, with trips and visits to local venues such as Cardiff Castle, St Fagan’s, Techniquest, theatres and parks etc.

Every Wednesday a range of extra-curricular activities is a fun way to compliment the children’s learning and these activities change each term. This enables children to broaden their interests and skills and develop their individual talents.

Our infant children are encouraged to value characteristics such as kindness, thoughtfulness towards others and good manners as they develop their social skills within the wider community of the school.
